BREAKING: Jose Urquidy of Houston Astros Leaves Game with Apparent Injury
Houston Astros starting pitcher Jose Urquidy exited Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies in the top of the sixth inning with an apparent arm injury.
With the Astros leading 4-2, Urquidy departed after having thrown 5.1 innings. He surrendered three hits, two earned runs, had one walk and struck out three.
Astros reporter Chandler Rome tweeted: Jose Urquidy is leaving the game with a trainer. Martin Maldonado called them out after a changeup sailed way outside."
While Urquidy doesn't have the flash of Justin Verlander or the devastating stuff like Framber Valdez, he has been a valued member of the Astros pitching staff for years. He made his debut in 2019 and owns a lifetime 25-15 record and a career 3.85 ERA.
As for this season, he's 1-2 with a 5.20 ERA. He is in line for the win against Philadelphia at the time of this posting.
If the Astros can hold on for the win, they'd move to 15-13 in the American League West.
At the time of this posting, the Rangers are in first place at 17-11, the Astros are in second at 14-13, the Angels are 15-14, the Mariners are 12-16 and the A's are 6-23.
The Astros won the World Series in 2022 by beating the Phillies in six games. In that World Series, he threw three innings and surrendered no runs.
He also pitched for Team Mexico in the World Baseball Classic this year, helping Mexico advance to the Final Four with the United States, Japan and Cuba.
