The Texas Rangers looked to fortify their starting rotation this offseason, but one of those acquisitions is now set to miss the entire season with injury.

Per Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, right-handed starter Jake Odorizzi will miss the entire 2023 season after undergoing an arthroscopic procedure on his shoulder.

There's no more details at this time but it's a blow to a Rangers team that is out to a 4-2 start and added Jacob deGrom, Andrew Heaney and Nathan Eovaldi this offseason to the rotation, along with Odorizzi, with the hopes of getting to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

Odorizzi, 33, was acquired this offseason in a deal with the Braves in a trade for left-hander Kolby Allard. He has spent time with the Rays, Twins, Astros and Braves before being traded to Texas and owns a lifetime 74-69 record with a 3.99 ERA.

As for how the Rangers handle it, they'll just go with what they've been going with, presumably. deGrom, Heaney, Eovaldi, Jon Gray and Martin Perez made up the opening day rotation out of spring training.

That rotation, coupled with major offensive pieces like Corey Seager, Adolis Garcia, Nate Lowe and Marcus Semien should give the Rangers a fighting chance in a tough AL West that features the world champion Astros, a playoff participant in the Mariners, and the Shohei Ohtani-Mike Trout led Angels.

The Rangers are opening up a series on Friday with the Cubs at 2:20 p.m. ET.
