Chicago White Sox Injury Updates on Liam Hendriks and Mike Clevinger

The Chicago White Sox, in fourth place in the American League Central, got injury updates on pitchers Liam Hendriks and Mike Clevinger.

At the time of this posting, the Chicago White Sox lead the New York Mets, 2-0, in the bottom of the third inning.

But before the game, the Sox provided some updates on injured pitchers Liam Hendriks and Mike Clevinger.

The following update on Hendriks comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Thursday that Hendriks (elbow) peaked at 93.8 mph in his simulated game Wednesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

ANALYSIS
Grifol said that Hendriks' velocity was "up" in the session, which must have been in reference to a bullpen session over the weekend considering the reliever has averaged 95.4 mph in his five appearances with the White Sox this season. The skipper wasn't sure what was next for Hendriks, saying the pitcher will "go in and talk to the trainers and we'll see what our next step is going to be." Hendriks has been out since early June with right elbow inflammation.

That still seems ominous on Hendriks, who is one of the top closers in the entire league, having wrapped up 116 career saves, nearly all of which have come since 2019. He led the league in 2021 in saves with 38 for the White Sox.

Hendriks is in his 13th career major league season and has spent time with the Twins, Royals, Blue Jays, Athletics and White Sox. He's a three-time All-Star (2019, 2021-2022)..

As for Clevinger:

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Thursday that Clevinger (biceps) will get up to 60 pitches in his next throwing session, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

ANALYSIS
Grifol didn't divulge when or where it will take place, but it will be on the heels of a three-up, three-down bullpen session Wednesday during which the manager said Clevinger "felt good and he looked good." Theoretically, the 60-pitch session could be Clevinger's final test before he rejoins Chicago's rotation, although the team has not confirmed as much.

Clevinger is currently 3-3 for the White Sox with a 4.56 ERA. He's struck out 40 in 47.1 innings.

He's in his first year with the White Sox after spending part of three years with the Padres organization. He spent part of five years with the Guardians organization prior to that.

Lifetime, he's 54-33 with a 3.46 ERA. He was a fourth-round pick of the Los Angeles Angels in the 2011 draft out of Seminole State College (Florida).
