The Chicago White Sox got some bad news on injured third baseman Yoan Moncada, who was put on the injured list Thursday with his ailing back problems.

The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Moncada will be placed on the injured list Thursday due to his nagging back injury, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

ANALYSIS
Moncada has dealt with a herniated disc in his back since spring training and already spent more than a month on the IL with the issue earlier this season. He's struggled at the plate of late and will head back to the shelf after playing through the injury for the past month. It's not clear how much time he'll miss, but it certainly could be an extended absence. Jake Burger is in line for everyday third base duties.

It's another disappointing setback for the 28-year-old, who was once the top prospect in baseball. He's hitting just .232 with a .279 on-base percentage this season. He's played in just 38 games after playing in just 104 a year ago.

The team also got an update on injured pitcher Mike Clevinger:

Clevinger has no structural damage to his arm after exiting early from Thursday's start against the Dodgers, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

ANALYSIS
Clevinger was forced to exit the start after 4.2 innings, though he described the results of follow-up exams as the "best news possible." It's likely that he'll still land on the injured list, though manager Pedro Grifol said no determination has been made yet.

The 32-year-old is in his first year in Chicago and is 3-4 with a 3.88 ERA.

The White Sox enter play on Thursday at 30-39.
