The Cincinnati Reds enter play on Sunday at 64-60 on the season. They are 3.0 games back in the National League Central and are currently tied for the third and final wild card spot in the National League.

As they chase their first playoff berth since the COVID 2020 season, the Reds are getting a huge piece of their rotation back in the form of Hunter Greene, who is being activated ahead of Sunday's game.

The following update comes from the Rotowire baseball portal:

The Reds reinstated Greene (hip) from the 60-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Sunday against the Blue Jays.

ANALYSIS
Greene ended up spending just over the minimum 60 days on the IL, as he'll be returning to the Cincinnati rotation for the first time since June 17 after making a full recovery from right hip discomfort. The young right-hander assuaged any lingering concerns about his health by turning in a dominant four-start rehab assignment between the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and Triple-A Louisville in which he compiled a 2.57 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 15:7 K:BB in 14 innings. Greene tossed 83 pitches and 5.2 innings in his final rehab outing Tuesday, so he's unlikely to face any major workload restrictions in his return from the IL.

One of the most electrifying young arms in the league, Greene's ability to help the Reds in the stretch run could be a difference maker.

Greene is armed with one of the best fastballs in the game. He was the No. 2 overall pick in the draft in 2017 out of the California high school ranks.

This season, he's 2-4 with a 3.93 ERA. He's struck out 100 batters in 73.1 innings.

For his career, he's 7-17 with a 4.25 ERA.

The Reds and Blue Jays play on Sunday at 1:40 p.m. ET.
