After getting injured before the game on Saturday, Cincinnati Reds rookie Noelvi Marte has been diagnosed with a broken nose.

Per Gordon Wittenmyer on social media:

Marte diagnosed with broken nose. Not on IL (at least yet). Can play based on tolerance/comfort level. Possibly with protective mask.

Marte's ability to play down the stretch will be big for a Reds' team that is trying to make the playoffs for the first time since 2020. Since being called up in the second half, he's hitting .254 with one home run, seven RBI and six stolen bases.

Marte is the top prospect in the organization, per MLB.com rankings. The following comes from his MLB.com prospect profile:

There are few prospects with more raw power than Marte, and he’s continuing to learn how to tap into it, with 36 homers over the last two seasons. It shows up more to his pull side as he’s good at barreling the ball out front. He draws walks and keeps his strikeouts to a minimum but can still improve on swing decisions and overall consistency in following his gameplan, though it should be noted he’s always been quite young for his level.

Marte is one of several young prospects to debut for the Reds this season including Elly De La Cruz, Andrew Abbott, Brandon Williamson, Spencer Steer, Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Matt McLain.

Entering play on Sunday, the Reds are 73-71 and 2.5 games back in the National League wild card race.

They are playing the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday.
