Colorado Rockies Outfielder Nolan Jones Leaves Game Against Oakland Athletics

The young slugger suffered from calf cramps late in the tight interleague battle, although manager Bud Black said the move was precautionary.

Colorado Rockies outfielder Nolan Jones left Sunday's game against the Oakland Athletics with a calf cramp, manager Bud Black told reporters.

Jones, who had two hits in the game, got visited by the training staff on the field. He was subbed out when the Rockies took the field in the ninth inning.

"It sort of went away, he felt good enough to take the at-bat," Black said. "But history tells us when a guy gets a cramp, it sort of stays there until it goes away. This indicated this wasn't gonna go away when he went out in the field. What we didn't want to happen, fly ball to left and he breaks, all of a sudden he cramps. So we were precautionary."

The Rockies were up when Jones left the game, and they wound up beating the Athletics 2-0.

Jones has appeared in 49 of Colorado's last 52 games, earning a spot in the starting lineup 43 times since May 26. He is hitting .273 with 1.2 WAR and an .836 OPS, while his production has him on pace for 29 home runs, 23 stolen bases and 71 RBI per 162 games.

The Cleveland Guardians traded Jones to the Rockies last November in exchange for infield prospect Juan Brito.

The Rockies return to play Monday against the San Diego Padres. Game one of that series is scheduled to start at 8:40 p.m. ET. It remains to be seen if Jones will be in the lineup, although Black's comments would suggest that he should be ready to go.
