Former Seattle Mariners, Chicago White Sox' Closer to Miss All of 2024 Season For AL Contender

The Houston Astros announced that key reliever Kendall Graveman is set to miss the 2024 season after a shoulder surgery. He has previously been a key member of the bullpens of the Seattle Mariners and Chicago White Sox.

The Houston Astros announced a key loss to their bullpen on Tuesday as Kendall Graveman is set to miss the season following surgery on his shoulder.

Per the team: "Astros right-handed pitcher Kendall Graveman underwent surgery on his right shoulder, General Manager Dana Brown announced today. As a result of the procedure, which was performed last week, Graveman is expected to miss the 2024 season..."

"Since 2021, Graveman has been one of the top relievers in the American League, posting a 2.74 ERA in 186 combined relief appearances with 24 saves, 51 holds for the Mariners, White sox and Astros."

The 33-year-old Alabama native has been a key member of multiple Astros' playoff bullpens. He pitched for Houston at the end of the 2021 season after being traded from Seattle and helped them get to the World Series, and re-joined them at the deadline in 2023 after a trade from the White Sox.

Lifetime, he's 37-43 and has served in both starter and reliever roles. He's got a 3.95 ERA but has seen his career take off since a permanent move to the 'pen. In 2021 with the Mariners, he threw in 30 games with a 0.82 ERA and 10 saves before getting dealt to Houston.

He was traded for reliever Joe Smith and infielder Abraham Toro.

He signed a big free agent contract in 2022 with the White Sox and went 6-8 with a 3.30 ERA in 110 games over 1.5 years. With regards to that trade, he was dealt for catching prospect Korey Lee.
