San Diego Padres manager Bob Melvin provided an update on ailing shortstop Xander Bogaerts and his wrist on Tuesday.

Speaking on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM, Melvin said he doesn't think that Bogaerts will require an injured list stint.

"We've been managing it a little bit since spring training. He had a cortisone shot in spring training. At times, it's been OK and at times, it's bothered him. He's the type of guy that's not going to come out of the lineup, don't think it's significant enough to where it needs to be an IL at this point..."

Bogaerts is in the first year of an 11-year, $280 million deal that he signed with the Padres before the season.

He's currently hitting .253 with seven homers and 19 RBI for the disappointing Friars, who are 24-29 and in fourth place in the National League West.

Bogaerts spent the previous 10 years in Boston, where he helped the Red Sox win the World Series in both 2013 and 2018. He's a lifetime .290 hitter with 163 home runs and 702 RBI.

He is a four-time All-Star selection, who has won the Silver Slugger Award five times. He's also received MVP votes in five different years.

The Padres travel down to Miami on Tuesday to play the Marlins at 6:40 p.m. ET. Ryan Weathers gets the ball for San Diego while Sandy Alcantara pitches for Miami.

The Marlins enter the game at 28-26 and in second place in the National League East.
