Jarred Kelenic Broke His Foot in a Completely Unacceptable Way on Wednesday

The key member of the Seattle Mariners learned a valuable lesson on Wednesday night.

Earlier on Thursday, we told you that Seattle Mariners outfielder Jarred Kelenic broke his foot and was placed on the injured list.

It's a tough blow for Kelenic, who was enjoying his first season any success at the big league level, and it's a devastating blow for the Mariners, who just lost one of the only pieces bringing them any kind of offense this season.

Unfortunately, Kelenic's injury was self-inflicted, as he broke the foot by kicking a water cooler after a strikeout in Wednesday's loss against the Twins.

Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times had the report:

Unfortunately for Kelenic, and for the Mariners, this is a lesson learned the hard way.

For a Mariners team that generally has been lethargic this season, it's nice to see that Kelenic cares and provides energy, but you absolutely cannot put yourself at risk in order to do it.

While there's no timetable on his return, this injury is likely to going to cost him several weeks, and for a team that is 47-48 and languishing in the playoff picture, those are several weeks they don't have.

While Kelenic has regressed from his hot start, he's been one of the constant presences in the lineup this season. He's hitting .252 with 11 homers, 45 RBI and 12 stolen bases. He's also played good outfield, runs the bases well and has been one of the few players to provide energy to a generally listless team.

One of the centerpieces of the organizational rebuild, he was acquired before the 2019 season from the New York Mets.

The Mariners play the Twins on Thursday afternoon with first pitch at 3:40 p.m. ET.
