Texas Rangers' Star Says He Doesn't Know if Injury Will Keep Him From Being on Opening Day Roster

After undergoing a sports hernia operation this offseason, Texas Rangers' shortstop Corey Seager is unsure if he'll be healthy enough for the Opening Day roster.

After undergoing a sports hernia operation this offseason, Texas Rangers' shortstop Corey Seager is insure if he'll be healthy enough for the Opening Day roster.

Seager spoke to reporters from Spring Training on Monday, including Stefan Stevenson of Inside the Rangers:

"...I try not to know what's next. I always wait for them to tell me what I can do."

Given that the Rangers just won the World Series, they certainly have some leeway. They don't (and won't) need to rush Seager back, so they'll obviously wait until he's 100 percent.

Seager had a banner year in 2023 as the team won its first-ever title. He hit .327 during the regular season, popping 33 homers and bringing home 96. He did all that in just 119 games, missing some time with a leg injury.

He also shined in the playoffs, hitting .286 in the World Series with three home runs as the Rangers beat the Diamondbacks. He was named World Series MVP for his efforts, the second time he's won that award. He also won it in 2020 as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Lifetime, Seager is a .292 hitter with 170 home runs. He's played nine years in the big leagues with the two franchises. He is a Rookie of the Year winner, a three-time Silver Slugger and a four-time All-Star.

In addition to Seager's ailments, the team also got some bad news on third baseman Josh Jung this week. He is dealing with a calf strain and will be re-evaluated in a few weeks.
