After Trades, Chicago White Sox Appear to Have New Go-To Closer

In the wake of trades of Joe Kelly and Kendall Graveman and an injury to Liam Hendriks, step up Gregory Santos in the Chicago White Sox bullpen.

In the wake of trades of Kendall Graveman, Reynaldo Lopez and Joe Kelly - and an injury to Liam Hendriks - the Chicago White Sox appear to have turned to Gregory Santos as there new closer.

The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Santos picked up the save Friday against the Guardians. He allowed one hit while striking out two over a scoreless inning.

ANALYSIS
The hard-throwing right-hander completed the shutout, securing the win for Touki Toussaint. It was only Santos' second save this season, but both have come in July and Scott Merkin of MLB.com suggests Santos is the new closer in the absence of Liam Hendriks (elbow). Kendall Graveman was traded to the Astros on Friday and Keynan Middleton has struggled lately, pitching to a 8.59 ERA in July.

The 23-year-old out of the Dominican Republic has appeared in 46 games this season, amassing 51 strikeouts in 51.1 innings. He's also pitched to a 2.63 ERA this season.

He's in his third big league season with the Giants and White Sox but is certainly making a bigger impact on the Southside, having just pitched 5.2 innings over the last two years combined.

Hendriks is scheduled to return this season from an elbow issue but we'll see if Santos is able to assert himself in his absence.

The White Sox are 42-63 and will play the Guardians again on Saturday night.

First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. ET as Logan Allen (CLE) pitches. The White Sox haven't named a starter as of this posting.
