Chipper Jones, Baseball Hall of Famer, Says He'd Hit .200 in Today's Game
On Monday night in Atlanta, Braves pitcher Spencer Strider was dominant.
He struck out 13 Marlins in an 11-0 victory for the Braves. He didn't surrender a hit until the eighth inning and made some very impressive Braves history in the outing.
He was so impressive, that when Braves legend and Hall of Famer Chipper Jones was asked about his stuff, he replied with this:
"I don't have any problem saying that I would hit a solid .200 in today's game. Spencer is a perfect illustration of what the game has come to. An incredible arm, incredible secondary stuff. I'm glad he's on our squad because he's going to be a number one starter for many years to come."
Strider is insanely good, and is part of a great Braves team that is out to a 15-8 start and leads the National League East.
He went 11-5 last year with a 2.67 ERA and helped the Braves win the National League East. Right now he is 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA. He's struck out 49 batters in 30 innings.
All that said, Jones is one of the best players in baseball history, so we bet he could he could find a way to hit above .200.
A switch-hitting third baseman, Jones was taken first overall in the 1990 draft. He proceeded to hit .303 for his career with 468 home runs and 2,726 hits. He was an eight-time all-star, won a batting title in 2008, won a title in 1995 and won MVP in 1999.
He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2018.
