Boston Red Sox Insider Details Team's Biggest Need as Trade Deadline Approaches

In this story:
The good news is that the Boston Red Sox have won six consecutive games and have pulled within 1.5 games of a wild card spot in the American League (entering Wednesday).
The bad news is that the Red Sox are still in last place in the American League East, mired there in the best division in baseball.
Because of the those two realities, the Red Sox are in an interesting spot as the trade deadline approaches. They could buy and go all-in for a team that still may not be good enough to win it all, or they could sell, punting on a team that is good enough to be in the playoffs.
Let's assume the Red Sox are somewhere in the middle. If this continues, the team couldn't justify selling everything, but they also can't likely justify mortgaging a prospect pool they've worked very hard to build. If the team can only make one big move or so, what should it be? What should they prioritize?
Red Sox Insider Tom Caron of NESN spoke on 'the Brady Farkas Show' on Wednesday to discuss the team's biggest need.
"Because of the Houck injury and Sale already on the shelf, I need a pitcher. You probably need help pitching wise next year, either way. I think that's the kind of move we've seen Bloom make in the past, where you get a pitcher who maybe has this year and next under your control, so you're making the move to get better now but you're putting someone into that rotation along with the young guys next year..."
The Red Sox do need a starter as Caron mentioned, after learning that Tanner Houck will be out for weeks after suffering a facial fracture.
The Red Sox take on the Twins on Wednesday at 7:40 p.m. ET.
