Prominent MLB Insider Announces He Has a Serious Injury

We wish Jeff Passan of ESPN the very best in his recovery.

Prominent ESPN baseball personality Jeff Passan took to Twitter on Monday to announce that he has suffered a very serious injury.

"Sorry I haven't been posting lately. During a cleanup after a big storm in KC, a large tree limb decided to fall and crush me. The good news: I still have use of my arms, legs and Twitter fingers. The bad news: I have a broken back.

The vertebra fracture will heal. I will be better. I'm hoping the pain subsides between now and the trade deadline, though painkiller-fueled tweets could be a fun time.

To my incredible family, friends and everyone at ESPN who have been so supportive: Thank you. For the nurses, doctors and support staff at KU Med: I so appreciate your care and diligence. And to those who are so vital to helping me deliver news this time of year especially: My back may be shot, but my phone still works."

We all certainly wish Passan a healthy recovery from an incredibly scary incident. He's one of the best reporters around and coverage of the sport is better with him in it.

From ESPN's Press Room:

He appears regularly on ESPN studio shows, including SportsCenter, Get Up and Baseball Tonight, writes for ESPN.com and is a frequent guest on such ESPN podcasts as ESPN Daily and Baseball Tonight with Buster Olney. He has also contributed as an on-field reporter, including for Monday Night Baseball and Wednesday Night Baseball.

Passan was named a 2022 Dan Jenkins Medal for Excellence in Sportswriting award recipient by the Moody College of Communication Center for Sports Communication & Media at the University of Texas for his 2021 story on San Francisco Giants outfielder Drew Robinson...

Prior to ESPN, Passan spent 13 years at Yahoo Sports.
