Former Promising Yankees Starter DFA'd by Pittsburgh Pirates

In this story:
Miguel Andujar, once thought of as part of the future for the New York Yankees, has been designated for assignment by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The 28-year-old utility player was hitting .161 with two homers and six RBIs for the Pirates in 31 at-bats.

He made his debut in 2017 with the Yankees but figured prominently on the 2018 version of the Yankees, playing in 149 games and hitting 27 home runs with 92 RBI. He also hit 47 doubles that year and hit .297.
With Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, Luis Severino and Greg Bird, Andujar was part of the 'Baby Bombers' and was expected to be a major part of the team's future.
Unfortunately, injuries have become a huge part of the story for Andujar. He missed most of the 2019 season with a shoulder injury, was in the minors for most of the COVID 2020 season and ended up injured most of the 2021 season (wrist) as well.
He was designated for assignment by the Yankees in September of 2022 and claimed by the Pirates.
As a result of this current designation, he'll have seven days to be traded, released or outrighted to the minor leagues.
The Pirates have activated pitcher Rob Zastryzny in his place.
Pittsburgh will start a new series with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday at 6:35 p.m. ET. Zac Gallen, one of the early favorites for Cy Young in the National League, will pitch for Arizona while Johan Oviedo gets the ball for Pittsburgh.
The Pirates are currently 23-20 while Arizona is 25-19.
