Keep an Eye on This Texas Longhorns Pitcher, Potential MLB Draft Pick in 2023

Texas Longhorns pitcher Tanner Witt could be a high draft pick in the 2023 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. He is coming off of Tommy John surgery and will certainly be worth watching this season.

The Texas Longhorns have a very interesting draft prospect on their roster, entering the 2023 season.

Pitcher Tanner Witt has shown a great amount of promise in his first two seasons with the Longhorns, but tore his UCL in 2022, and is coming off Tommy John Surgery.

If Witt is able to return to what he was prior to his injury, he could be a high pick in the 2023 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.

Tanner Witt is the son of a first round Draft pick and former MLB first baseman Kevin Witt. He throws high velocity. He won both of his starts in 2022, logging a 1.64 ERA and 14 strikeouts over 11 innings pitched. He pitched solely out of the Longhorns bullpen in his freshman season in 2021, posting a 3.16 ERA and 73 strikeouts over 57 innings.

Witt was recently named to the All-Big 12 Preseason Team. In what will hopefully be his first full season as a starter, Witt has the potential to shine.

MLB Pipeline currently has Witt going no. 24 overall to the Atlanta Braves in its latest mock draft. Witt could be a Major League star in the making, and will be worth watching as the college season gets started.

Texas will play an alumni game Sat., Feb. 4. The Longhorns will open their season at the Texas Rangers' Globe Life Field Feb. 17 against the Arkansas Razorbacks. They will also play the Missouri Tigers and Vanderbilt Commodores that same weekend.

Texas is coming off a season in which they went 47-22, reaching the College World Series and the Final Four.
