When the Los Angeles Dodgers open up the 2024 season in South Korea against the San Diego Padres, you can expect to see newcomer Yoshinobu Yamamoto make his first major league start.

Per Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times:

The Dodgers plan for Yamamoto to start a game in their season-opening, two-game series against the San Diego Padres in South Korea, according to people familiar with the situation who spoke under the condition of anonymity.

Yamamoto will prepare for the game in a looser environment than what he experienced in Japan, one that will allow him to better incorporate his unorthodox training methods.

“In Japan, everyone does the same thing on the menu one by one,” Yamamoto said. “Here, it’s not completely free, but it’s somewhere between individual and team workouts.”

Yamamoto was talking about his interesting training regimen, which he is incorporating into his work with the Dodgers.

The Korea Series begins on March 20 and will be played on the 20th and 21st.

Yamamoto signed a 12-year deal with the Dodgers this offseason, becoming the most expensive pitcher in major league history. He joins Shohei Ohtani, Tyler Glasnow, James Paxton and Teoscar Hernandez as additions to the Dodgers, who are now among the true favorites to win the World Series.

Yamamoto will presumably be joined in the starting rotation by Paxton, Glasnow, Bobby Miller and Emmet Sheehan.

Clayton Kershaw is on the injured list until mid-summer and Walker Buehler won't make his debut at the start of the season as he returns from Tommy John surgery.
