Lucas Giolito was "Pretty Sad" White Sox Didn't Re-Sign Jose Abreu

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Lucas Giolito was not happy when he heard the news that former teammate Jose Abreu had signed a three-year contract with the Houston Astros back in November.

He was recently asked on the Chris Rose Rotation about his reaction and feelings when he heard the news that Abreu would no longer be a teammate of his.

"I was pretty sad," Giolito told Chris Rose. "I think that was a sad day for White Sox players, staff (and) fans. A lot of just always though 'Pito's going to wear a White Sox uniform until he retires.' At the same time, being a player, I understand why he made that decision (and) why he went to Houston."

Giolito then shared what he will miss most about Abreu.

"What am I going to miss most from him? His presence. He's a leader, not necessarily vocally. Though, the way he went about everything he did. He had such care and attention to his work. His love for the game and everything that comes with it really made the clubhouse feel whole (and) feel like a family, so that's obviously going to be missed a lot."

Andrew Vaughn is expected to take over at first base, in the wake of Abreu's departure. Abreu had played for the White Sox for the first nine years of his Major League career.

The White Sox still appear to have a pair of open positions, at second base and in right field. The White Sox could be relying on a top prospect to give the club a boost in right field. As for second base, perhaps the Sox should consider trading for Nick Madrigal and bringing him back to the organization.
