On Tuesday, the Miami Marlins acquired infielder Jonah Bride in a deal with the Oakland Athletics. In a corresponding move, they designated former Toronto Blue Jays top prospect Jordan Groshans for assignment.

Per the Marlins on social media:

The Marlins today acquired INF Jonah Bride from Oakland in exchange for cash considerations. To make room on the 40-man roster, INF Jordan Groshans has been designated for assignment.

The 28-year-old Bride can help the Marlins at any infield position, and we know the Marlins are looking for infield help this season. They have been specifically looking for help at shortstop, so perhaps Bride can be in competition for that spot. He made his major league debut in 2022 with the A's and has played in 98 career games. He's a .192 hitter and a .296 on-base percentage. He has one career home run.

The Marlins made the playoffs last season as a National League wild card team but were swept in two games in the wild card round by the Philadelphia Phillies.

As for Groshans, he's a former top prospect of the Toronto Blue Jays. He was in the Top 100 prospects (per MLB.com) in three straight years from 2020-2022, getting as high as No. 46 in 2021. Groshans is still just 24 years old, so there's certainly a chance of him finding himself as he moves forward, but it just hasn't happened yet. He's hit .262 in 61 career major league at-bats and hit just .244 at Triple-A last season, with only six home runs.

Given that he was DFA'd, he'll have seven days to be released, traded or sent to the minors. All signs point to him landing in the minors with the Marlins once again.
