Milwaukee Brewers Could Yo-Yo Former Top Prospect Once Again By Moving Him Back to OF

After an offseason spent learning the infield, the Milwaukee Brewers could supposedly move former top outfield prospect Sal Frelick back to the outfield in response to the Garrett Mitchell injury.

After an offseason of learning the infield, Milwaukee Brewers' former top prospect Sal Frelick could end up returning to the outfield to begin the season.

After Garrett Mitchell broke his hand just days ago, manager Pat Murphy says he is considering putting Frelick back in the outfield, where he was formerly one of the games top prospects.

It's not a definite, but it is an option, as Murphy told Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

"Garrett Mitchell has a fracture in his left hand. He will open the year on the Injured List."

While Frelick would undoubtedly move back seamlessly to his old position if this happened, it would help partly erase an offseason worth of work. Frelick had been slated to start the year as the team's third baseman and had spent the offseason working with the likes of former Boston Red Sox' great Dustin Pedroia.

The 23-year-old was a first round pick of the Brewers in the 2021 draft out of Boston College and made his major league debut last season.

In 57 games, he hit .246 with three homers, 24 RBI and seven stolen bases. Milwaukee won the National League Central and eventually lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League wild card round of the playoffs.

While the Brewers continue to have good players like Frelick on the roster, it's likely that they take a regression in 2024. They've traded away ace Corbin Burnes and depth pitcher Adrian Houser. They also saw Eric Lauer leave in free agency and Brandon Woodruff is expected to miss the entire season with injury.
