Milwaukee Brewers Trade Outfielder Tyler Naquin to Chicago White Sox

Naquin never made it through the Brewers' minor league system, but the veteran could break into the big leagues for the struggling White Sox this fall.

In a rare post-deadline move, the Milwaukee Brewers have traded outfielder Tyler Naquin to the Chicago White Sox.

According to Chicago Sun Times beat reporter Daryl Von Schouwen, the White Sox sent cash considerations back to Milwaukee as part of the deal.

The 32-year-old Naquin has seven years of major league experience under his belt, but he has yet to reach the big leagues this season. Naquin signed a minor league contract with the Brewers in February, but he hit .194 with a .536 OPS in spring training and started the season down a level.

Naquin played 40 games for Triple-A Nashville prior to the trade, hitting .284 with six home runs, 21 RBI and a .766 OPS.

First breaking onto the scene with the Cleveland Indians in 2016, Naquin finished third in AL Rookie of the Year voting and helped his team win the AL pennant. Naquin's production fell off from there, though, and Cleveland let him walk to join the Cincinnati Reds in free agency in 2021.

The Reds traded Naquin to the New York Mets at the 2022 deadline, and he went on to post a .636 OPS across 49 games in Queens.

Naquin is a career .264 hitter with 61 home runs, 97 doubles, 237 RBI, a .765 OPS and 32 outfield assists.

While the Brewers are first in the NL Central and 60-53, the White Sox are fourth in the AL Central at 45-68.

Chicago has been riding an outfield of Andrew Benintendi, Luis Robert Jr. and Oscar Colas for most of the summer, with Gavin Sheets rotating in every few games. Veterans Clint Frazier, Trayce Thompson and Adam Haseley have gotten scattered time as well, but Thompson is the only one currently on the major league roster.

According to multiple reports, Naquin will be assigned to Triple-A Charlotte and join the lineup Tuesday. He could find himself back in the majors soon, though, with the White Sox decidedly out of the playoff race and September call-ups roughly three weeks away.
