New York Yankees and Gerrit Cole Lead Baseball in This Unfortunate Category

In this story:
The New York Yankees lost to the Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon by a score of 8-7. The Marlins came back to win with five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. They joined the Washington Nationals in some unique come-from-behind victory history on Sunday.
It's a brutal loss for the Yankees, who are trying to stay relevant in the American League playoff picture. New York is now 60-58 on the year and 5.0 games back of the third and final wild card spot.
Even worse, the Yankees wasted a dominant pitching performance from ace Gerrit Cole, who went six innings, allowing just two runs on six hits. He stuck out six and now has an ERA of 2.76.
Wasted Cole pitching performances are nothing new for New York, who now lead baseball in this unfortunate category.
Per Katie Sharp of Stathead:
Yankees now have lost 7 games that Gerrit Cole started and he went 6+ IP and allowed 2 runs or fewer this season.
That's the most in MLB in for any pitcher.

That's the most in MLB in for any pitcher.
Despite the lack of run support or bullpen meltdowns, Cole is still 10-3 this season with that 2.76 ERA. He started the All-Star Game this season and has struck out 166 batters in 156.1 innings.
One of the most dominant pitchers of his era, he's 140-74 lifetime in 11 seasons with the Pirates, Astros and Yankees.
The task won't get any easier for New York this week as they'll open up a series on Monday with the league-best Atlanta Braves.
Game one is set for 7:20 p.m. ET.
