As Major League Baseball ramps up its commitment to growing the game overseas, reports are circulating that the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets will play in the London Series in 2024.

The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees previously played in the event, and the Cardinals and Cubs are playing in it this year. Tom Verducci of Sports Illustrated reported on the 2024 event and his words were copied by the British Baseball account, BatFlips_Nerds on Twitter:

"This year, MLB is returning to London with the Cardinals playing the Cubs June 24 and 25. Another London Series is scheduled for 2024, with the Mets scheduled to play the Phillies. Games are also returning to Mexico City, where the Padres and Giants played last month. The Astros are Rockies are expected to play there in '24."

The London Series is a critical part of growing the game overseas, particularly in Europe, where baseball is starting to gain traction. Baseball already has strong traction in Latin America, the Caribbean, Canada, Asia and Australia.

Great Britain had a fun and surprising run in the World Baseball Classic, nearly advancing out of pool play so these 2023 and 2024 events should happen with good momentum behind them.

The Mexico City games this year also seemed to be well-received and a good success. The Astros, given Houston's proximity to the Southern Border make sense for that trip, but the Rockies and not the Dodgers? Hmmm.... Given the proximity of Los Angeles to Mexico, that feels like it would have been a better selection.
