Tampa Bay Rays Front Office Leader Leaves to Go Run Miami Marlins Baseball Ops

Tampa Bay Rays general manager Peter Bendix has announced that he's leaving Tampa to go and run the baseball operations department for the Miami Marlins.

After seeing general manager Kim Ng leave this offseason, the Miami Marlins have a new person in charge.

According to Ken Rosenthal of 'The Athletic', Tampa Bay Rays general manager Peter Bendix is leaving the organization to run baseball ops in South Florida.

This will be a major step forward for Miami, who was ridiculed nationally for putting Ng in a position to want to leave. After leading the Marlins to the playoffs twice in four years, ownership allegedly wanted to put someone above her in the front office structure. She didn't like it reportedly and declined her half of a mutual option.

Bendix had served as Rays GM since December of 2021. The following comes from a portion of his Rays biography:

He oversees the baseball systems group and works closely with other departments to facilitate learning and development. Bendix joined the Rays as an intern in January 2009 and was later promoted to assistant of baseball operations, coordinator of baseball research and development, and director of baseball development. Before his promotion to his current role, he spent six seasons leading the baseball development department and served as vice president of baseball development from 2020-21.

The Marlins are coming off a season that saw them earn in a wild card berth in the National League playoffs. They were swept in two games by the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Rays won 99 games and earned a wild card berth in the American League playoffs. They were swept in two games by the eventual world champion Texas Rangers.
