UFC 296: Brendan Schaub Disagrees With Detractors Of Paddy Pimblett vs. Tony Ferguson

Schaub is in support of Paddy vs. Ferguson.

Brendan Schaub has spoken out against detractors of the Paddy Pimblett vs. Tony Ferguson fight.

When it was announced that Pimblett and Ferguson would be featured on the UFC 296 card, it certainly had its naysayers. While some feel the bout will be a good test for Pimblett and a winnable fight for "El Cucuy," others believe the UFC is sending the old guard out to pasture.

One notable name in the MMA community who doesn't understand the backlash is Schaub. He has noted that when he first heard rumblings of the fight, he felt the UFC was finally giving Ferguson a chance to get back in the win column.

During a recent edition of "The Schaub Show," Brendan Schaub expressed his belief that the doom and gloom for Ferguson going into this bout is overplayed.

"My question for you guys out there who are so, so against this fight with Tony Ferguson and Paddy Pimblett, what aspect of mixed martial arts is Paddy Pimblett better at than Tony Ferguson? Striking? No," Schaub said. "Grappling? Probably Paddy's biggest asset. You think he's a better submission artist than Tony Ferguson? Wrestling? No way, you don't have better wrestling than Tony. Now, if this is four years ago, three years ago Tony mops the floor with Paddy Pimblett at this point, but it's not. It's a more weathered, slower, less dangerous Tony Ferguson, but to say that Paddy Pimblett's more dangerous than Tony Ferguson is insane to me."

Schaub said that he isn't necessarily picking Ferguson to win the fight, but he doesn't think it's a terrible matchup. He shared his belief that Pimblett isn't a world-class striker or grappler thus far in his pro MMA career.
