Kathy Grimes and KG Just Money Smash WPRA Standard Pattern Rodeo Record

2026 has been one for the record books — and the leading ladies in professional barrel racing are not backing off the gas.

Just a few weeks ago, Sydney Graham and her stallion, Dupont First, shattered several records, including the WPRA Standard Pattern Rodeo Record in Heber City, Utah.

Clocking in at 16.49 seconds, the duo bested the 16.53 posted in 2025. Makenna Shook and XV Mario held the WPRA Standard Pattern Rodeo Record with their incredible run at the Cassia County Fair & Rodeo in Burley, Idaho.

Standard pattern records are a nuanced topic, and we go into more detail here.

As for the WPRA Standard Pattern Rodeo Record, this honor is reserved for teams competing at sanctioned WPRA rodeos.

Kathy Grimes is no stranger to the winner's circle in professional rodeo, aged events, and major open barrel races nationwide. Grimes has spent decades building her breeding program, and KG Just Money ("Showie") is a product of her thoughtful efforts.

Sired by PC Frenchmans Hayday, one of the most dominant sires in barrel racing, specifically in professional rodeo, Showie has been a standout since early in his futurity season.

Showie's packed pedigree does not end with a sire who competed at the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) and produced World Champions — his dam competed there too.

Showie's dam, the $1 million producer, KG JusticeWeExpected ("Issy"), carried Grimes to the NFR in 2017. Alongside another Grimes-raised mare, KG Blazin Nine Oh, Issy made waves on the professional rodeo trail before she began producing the next generation of winners.

Issy, a daughter of Judge Cash and out of Do It For Beau, Grimes' first home-raised major winner, possesses one of the strongest maternal lines in barrel racing today.

One of the top breeding programs in the sport began with Grimes' sister's retired barrel horse, Jodalito Cielo, and a young stallion her family had raised, Beaus Scoop Of Sun. Three decades and four generations later, those horses are the cornerstones of Grimes' Nine Oh Barrel Horses.

"Jodalito Cielo (Showie's great-granddam) did not look spectacular on paper, but I tried to improve the stallion side by picking ones that were more well-known and winning. It's what they do in the pen that really matters," Grimes shared.

Clearly, what Grimes' horses have been doing inside the arena illustrates that the "proof is in the pudding."

How

Grimes shared insight on her and Showie's futurity season with Rodeo On SI in 2025, when the duo earned high-money honors for the year.

Grimes had made very few runs on Showie when he began clocking 17.2- and 17.0-second runs on a standard pattern. From January forward, the duo topped leaderboards across the country, taking home countless futurity championships.

By the end of 2025, QData recorded Showie with $355,246 in earnings in his first year of competition. As of August 24, 2026 (not including all earnings through this date), QData lists his lifetime earnings at $484,947.

When Grimes began hitting some of the early winter rodeos in 2026, it was clear that Showie was going to transition to rodeo successfully. The pair clocked some of the fastest times of the winter, racking up wins and quickly finding their spot inside the top 15 in the World Standings.

It was a fitting full-circle moment for Showie to step onto the stage of professional rodeo, as Grimes explained that a lot of his seasoning and training were done while she was competing at rodeos on her stallion, KG Jukebox Hero.

Grimes, a veterinarian, always focuses on her breeding program in the spring, and this year was no exception. Once those duties were fulfilled, she and Showie were back at the rodeos.

The duo has steadily continued to pick up wins and checks, and as of August 20, they were ranked No. 17 in the World Standings.

In Grimes' own words, the pair truly saved the best for last over the recent weekend and stand alone as the only 16.3-second run ever officially recorded at a WPRA rodeo.
