Women in Rodeo: Shelby Boisjoli-Meged’s 2026 NFBR Bid Comes Down to the Wire

The 2023 world champion breakaway roper has her work cut out for her this season as Shelby Boisjoli-Meged is fighting for a chance to secure her seventh trip to the National Finals Breakaway Rodeo. At No. 19 in the world standings, this cowgirl has just weeks left in the regular season to battle her way to the top.
Boisjoli-Meged Races Against Time
Boisjoli-Meged is no stranger to the spotlight as she first entered ProRodeo in 2020 and took home her first world title just three years later. She finished as the reserve world champion in 2025 and now with $64,577 earned so far this year, she’s $11,000 away from landing in the top 15.
Although the cowgirl isn’t where she wants to be in the standings, she’s had an incredible year in the arena. Her biggest win of the season happened at the legendary Calgary Stampede, her blazing 2.5-second run won her the round (alongside her husband, tie-down roper Haven Meged) and a check for $7,000.
She kept that momentum rolling throughout the summer as she tied the arena record at the Caldwell Night Rodeo with a run of 2.2 seconds. She continues her run at this rodeo through this week, hoping to secure the overall title when it’s all said and done.
Bouncing Back After Baby Boy
Boisjoli-Meged is an icon in the breakaway arena. She remains the only cowgirl to qualify for every NFBR and she consistently finds herself at the top of the leaderboard season after season. Things slowed down for her this season as she and her husband welcomed their baby boy into the world earlier this season.
After just eight weeks away, the cowgirl returned to the arena at the Ponoka Stampede with hopes of riding her way to the top through the big summer rodeos. Despite some time off, she pulled in the win at her first rodeo back with a run of 2.8-seconds.
Although she still has a big gap to close in earnings, she isn’t slowing down, leading the pack at Caldwell and hopefully finding more success as the end of the year nears. She has a solid support system behind her, including her world champion husband and the set of horses she trusts to enter the arena with her.
The Boisjoli-Meged name is synonymous with breakaway roping. As this cowgirl fights for her spot in the top 15, the NFBR arena might feel empty without her. As time runs out in the 2026 rodeo season, all eyes are on this world champion as she works to earn her seventh straight trip to the finals.
