Countdown to NFR Barrel Racing: #12 Stevi Hillman Interview

Name: Stevi Hillman

Hometown: Granbury, TX

Rank: 12th

2023 Winnings: $109,015

NFR Qualifications:8 (2016-2023)

Career Earnings: $1,292,782

Biggest Win of 2023: Pendleton Roundup for sure!

Horse(s): Sand In My Socks “Sandi” – 6-year-old sorrel mare; RV Brigett “Brigett” – 6-year-old mare.

Strategy for NFR: Consistency is my strategy.

Saddle: Shiloh Encourager

Top 3 favorite bits: Anything “No Hit” Bits makes is great. My go to bit when running is a Kathy James two-piece twist. I use it on so many horses. My every day riding bit is a straighter shank, like the two-piece twist Flaharty “Duke”.

Horse leg Protection: 5-Star Boots

Jeans and Shirts: Rock and Roll Denim

Hat: Western Legacy Hat Company

Truck: Bill Fick Ford

Trailer: Elite 5 horse

Must haves in truck and trailer: The horses, of course. Ty, my husband, and my dogs. Otherwise, I have to have fruit, chips and salsa, my protein shakes, and ibuprofen.

Travel partners: My husband, Ty, and the dogs.

Motto: Trust God…always Trust God! Barrel racing/rodeo is not who you are, it is what you do.

Favorite Food on the road: That’s really a tough question because we love the local spots, but I would say any Thai food and anything other than chain restaurants.

What defines a champion: A champion gets up and tries again after being knocked down…over and over. That’s winning to me. I would also say that what defines a champion to me is how they make people feel when they leave. Helping and loving on others is a true champion in my eyes.

Advice: Never stop learning.
