Nike Drops Eclipse-Inspired Video for Victor Wembanyama

Nike focused on San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama during the eclipse.

Like so many people all over the United States, I just came inside after experiencing one of the coolest moments nature can provide humanity. So, now it's back to staring at my phone for several hours per day.

As soon I opened my social media apps, there was a new video spot from Nike Basketball, and it did not disappoint. Nike dropped a perfectly timed advertisement for San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama.

The spacey video features starts with the message, "Somewhere in South Texas." From there, an aerial view scans over cornfields that reveal Wembanyama's logo. The social media post was captioned, "The total eclipse has just begun." Check out the 45-second video below.

At 7'4", Wembanyama does draw some similarities to otherworldly beings. Nike leaned heavily into that theme when the brand nicknamed Wembanyama "The Extraterrestrial" in an apparel ad last August. The rookie still does not have a signature sneaker, but that is sure to change in the not-so-distant future.

Throughout his rookie season, Wembanyama has averaged roughly 23.7 points, 12 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 4.1 blocks per game. There is a real possibility that the out-of-this-world talent eventually averages quadruple-doubles in the NBA. An unthinkable statistic from an unbelievable player.

Not only does Nike have most of the top talent in the NBA on its basketball roster, but its marketing prowess is unmatched. Something is definitely happening in South Texas, but it is originating in Beaverton, Oregon. Stay locked into FanNation Kicks for all your sneaker news from the sports world.
