Count as one of the many people who were perplexed by the unusual rollout of Devin Booker's first signature sneaker. Booker's debut hoop shoe with Nike was noticeably absent at NBA Media Day and launched in extremely limited numbers in December 2023.

Maybe it is safe to say the Phoenix Suns guard and Nike know what they are doing. Besides Booker's throwback playstyle, he also loves paying tribute to classic sneakers of yesteryear. His Americana fashion sense (and taste in classic cars) leans heavily into old-school sensibilities.

So, it only makes sense that Booker builds hype for his first signature sneaker by debuting several player-exclusive colorways that honor iconic sneakers of the past. During Sunday's night game against the Memphis Grizzlies, Booker scored 24 points and debuted the Nike Book 1 'Metallic Purple' colorway.

While the Suns lost to the Grizzlies, it was not a total loss. Booker debuted arguably the best colorway of his first signature sneaker yet. The 'Metallic Purple' colorway is an OG style that has made its way onto several Air Jordan sneakers over the decades.

Throughout the 2023-24 NBA season, Booker has worn the Nike Book 1 in the 'Shattered Backboard' and 'Cool Grey' colorways. Additionally, we have seen styles that were a nod to the Nike Air Max 95 'Neon' and the late-great Kobe Bryant.

While the Nike Book 1 did technically launch last month, the model will enjoy a true rollout later this spring. If the early colorways are any indication of what is to come, Booker could have a hit with his first signature sneaker.
