The Latest on Bayley's WWE Status After Monday Night Raw Name Drop

Lyra Valkyria continues to mention Bayley every chance she gets, but should fans take that as a sign that The Role Model will be back on WWE television in the near future?

Lyra Valkyria did it again on Monday night.

Ever since she defeated Bayley at Saturday Night's Main Event last month and dropped her onto the steel ring steps with a Nightwing, the former Women's Intercontinental Champion has brought up the Role Model in nearly every interview she's done, whether it be with non-affiliated media outlets or on WWE programming.

Minutes after Sol Ruca and IYO SKY defeated Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez on the August 10 edition of the Red Brand, they bumped into the increasingly unhinged and paranoid Valkyria backstage. Sol and Lyra proceeded to get into an argument about who would be next in line for a shot at Raquel's Women's IC Title, which ended after Valkyria once again boasted about taking out Bayley inside Madison Square Garden.

So, what's the big deal?

For those of you who have not been keeping up with the latest news and rumors, it is widely believed that Bayley's WWE contract is due up by the end of this year. The Grand Slam Women's Champion is expected to garner heavy interest from rival promotions if she were to hit the open market, especially from All Elite Wrestling.

The Role Model has not been seen on WWE television since Saturday Night's Main Event, but a subsequent California live event appearance, and Lyra's continuous name dropping, has some (this author included) believing that Bayley will be back in the WWE creative mix soon. Even if she ultimately decides not to re-sign with the company.

Bayley's WWE status was a topic of conversation on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, and veteran journalist Dave Meltzer said that, as of now, she has not agreed to terms on a new contract.

"The only thing I've heard from them when it comes to Bayley is that Bayley has a decision to make. So that's the story, Bayley has a decision to make. She has not signed a contract. When she signs a contract, I'm sure she'll be back on TV," Meltzer said. "I think the situation with her is if she signs a contract, she'll probably come back and attack Lyra, and that'll be her storyline. And if she doesn't sign, she doesn't come back and the Madison Square Garden thing was her write-off."
