Watch: Village Christian's Thomas Luczak hits game-winner against Heritage Christian, discusses the win

SUN VALLEY, Calif. -- It seemed impossible.
Trailing 54-50 with 30 seconds left, Village Christian rallied to beat rival Heritage Christian 55-54 on Tuesday night. Crusaders sophomore Noah Williams made a layup and was fouled with 20 seconds to play. He converted the free throw to make the score 54-53 Heritage Christian. Immanuel Taylor then forced a jump ball with ten seconds to play following a Heritage Christian inbounds pass which gave the Crusaders possession. Out of a timeout, Village Christian head coach Julian Andrade drew up a beautiful play that resulted in a cutting Thomas Luczak making a wide open layup with eight seconds remaining. Heritage Christian senior Barrington Hargress missed a shot at the buzzer on the Warriors final possession.
"I was ready for the moment," Luczak said postgame. "That's it."
Williams finished with 14 points to lead Village Christian. Heritage Christian junior Pierre Geneste scored 14 points as well. The win pushes Village Christian into first place in the Olympic League. The Crusaders are 18-3 overall and 4-0 in the league. Heritage Christian falls to 15-4 and 2-1 in the Olympic League.
Tuesday's game-winning shot was the second of Luczak's career against Heritage Christian. He hit the critical shot as a freshman to beat Heritage Christian 56-55 in January of 2020 as well.
