Moorpark football stuns Newbury Park in wild comeback victory (video)

Isaac Velasquez had a pick-six to end the game, capping Moorpark's 28-point fourth quarter to beat Newbury Park in a thriller.

It's been a while since Moorpark High raised eyebrows on Friday nights.

The last time the Musketeers were flying high, Drake London was on the roster. The standout wideout went on to USC and is now playing for the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL.

His final prep season was the fall of 2018 before graduating in 2019. Moorpark went 11-3 when London was a junior and 8-4 his senior year. Since then, the program has had just one winning season, including a 1-9 campaign in 2021.

Things are clearly turned around, and Friday night's 35-28 comeback win over Newbury Park is an indicator of that. Moorpark is 6-0, which is its best start since 2009 when it started 8-0-1.

Moorpark trailed Newbury Park (4-2) 21-0 and 28-7 before mounting a magical comeback, capped by a walk-off, game-sealing interception return for a touchdown by junior defensive back Isaac Velasquez.

Moorpark scored 28 points in the fourth quarter.

The Musketeers took a 29-28 lead with under a minute left after a successful two-point conversion before Newbury Park standout QB Brady Smigiel tried to mount a comeback drive. His pass down the left sideline was intercepted and returned for a score on the game's final play.

Velasquez was mobbed by students in the end zone after the play.
