Highlights: Westchester girls basketball, reigning CIFLACS champion, takes on Santiago (Corona) at H.O.P.E. Showcase

The Comets shook off the offseason rust in a preseason battle against another CIF champion

CYPRESS, Calif. - It's a good day to be a Westchester girls basketball fan.

Three years after winning a Division 1 title, the Comets went 29-2 last year and broke through for an L.A. City Section Open Division championship.

And now, despite graduating one of the most talented and accomplished senior classes the section has seen in recent years, Westchester still has a real shot at going back to back.

Led by player of the year runner-up Mariah Blake, returning guards Reigne Waugh and Maya Kama, and standout freshman Savannah Myles, the Comets are sure to be one of the top teams in the City once again.

Taking on the SoCal Division 1 regional champion Santiago (Corona) at the H.O.P.E. Showcase, Westchester gave fans a taste of what to expect this season in flashes despite coming up short in a 45-26 loss. Click here for Santiago's highlights from the preseason game.
