Ron Caragher named head football coach at St. Augustine

Caragher won 63 games over his two stops as head coach at San Diego and San Jose State

Ron Caragher, a former Division 1 head football coach, was named head coach at St. Augustine High School on Friday afternoon, per the school.

A backup quarterback at UCLA for Troy Aikman, Caragher went on to coach at UCLA and Kentucky for more than a decade before he became the head coach at the University of San Diego in 2007. He won 44 games over six seasons with the Toreros before serving as the head coach at San Jose State for four seasons. He then was an assistant coach at San Diego State for two seasons before most recently working in the USD athletic department.

Caragher replaces Ron Gladnick, who was let go in December after leading the Saints to the San Diego Section Division 1 title in his second season as head coach.

Several of St. Augustine's top players from this past season including quarterback Brady Palmer and standout two-way freshman Honor Fa'alave Johnson have announced their decision to transfer to rival Cathedral Catholic since Gladnick's dismissal.
