Highlights: Caruthers girls basketball edges Granada Hills for second CIF State crown

Emmi Almeida led Caruthers to the program's second CIF State title

SACRAMENTO - Caruthers girls basketball defeated Granada Hills Charter 54-48 in the CIF State Division III final at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento Friday afternoon.

Caruthers won its second state championship in its second appearance all-time led by Emmi Almeida's game-high 21 points.

Almeida scored a pivotal basket with just under two minutes to play that extended the Caruthers lead from six to eight when it seemed like Granada Hills was inching closer to a comeback bid.

Granada Hills made its first appearance ever and is the first LA City Section team to make a CIF State final since 2001 (Narbonne).

Karma Paez led the Highlanders with 15 points.
