Vote now: Who was the Top Florida Softball Pitcher of 2023?
The spring season for high school sports has officially concluded and now students are out for the summer. Softball had another memorable campaign in 2023, with many players really standing out.
Some of the best high school softball pitchers around the country comes from down in Florida and we went ahead and compiled a list of who we think are the top pitchers in the Sunshine State. We ask you the fan to take a look at our list and give us your vote on who do you think the top high school softball pitcher out of the state of Florida.
Editor’s note: Our corresponding poll is intended to be fun, and we do not set limits on how many times a fan can vote during the competition. This poll is specifically for fans to vote on the players that have been nominated and in no way discredits any other player that may not be mentioned in our poll.
Jayden Heavener, Pace: The LSU commit went 18-2 in 2023 with a 0.22 ERA (only allowed four earned runs) and 300 strikeouts.
Katelynn Oxley, Bartow: The Florida commitment and Class 6A state champ had a stellar junior season. Oxley went 23-2, striking out 307 batters and had a 0.50 ERA.
Jasmine Francik, Melbourne: The junior fireballer led the state with 411 strikeouts with a 19-4 record and 0.19 ERA.
Grace Jones, Episcopal School: One of the state’s top leaders when it came to strikeouts fanned 344 batters with a record of 22-5 on the mound.
Lauren Levendoski, Eustis: The senior pitcher ended her high school career with a bang, striking out 255 batters and only allowing 10 earned runs.
Sophia Bertorelli, Coral Springs Charter: Just a sophomore, Bertorelli was sensational for the Panthers. Bertorelli went 20-1 with a 0.44 ERA and 254 strikeouts.
Yessenia Lopez, Doral Academy: Though the Firebirds fell short of the 6A title, Lopez had a tremendous junior season. The pitcher went 19-6 with 246 strikeouts and a 1.20 ERA.
Isabella Vega, Parrish Community: The UCF commit helped lead the Bulls to the Class 5A title with her pitching. Vega struck out 227 batters with a 14-2 record.
Ava Braswell, Hernando: Can’t deny that Braswell was one of the top pitchers on the North Suncoast and Tampa Bay Area. Braswell went 16-5 with a 1.61 ERA and 214 strikeouts.
Leila Ammon, Gulf Breeze: Ammon had herself a season to remember for the Dolphins. The pitcher fanned 206 batters and allowed just 10 earned runs all season long.
Mallory Wheeler, Jensen Beach: The junior pitcher was one of the top strikeout leaders in the state. Wheeler fanned 300 batters and had a 1.28 ERA.
Violet Flynn, Crystal River: Just a freshman this past season, Flynn showed she will be a force the next three seasons. Flynn went 9-7 with a 1.16 ERA and 278 strikeouts.
Olivia Miller, Bishop Moore: One of the top producing seniors on the mound, Miller went out with a strong 2023 season. Miller went 22-2 with a 1.17 ERA and 261 strikeouts.
Kennedy Temples, Marianna: The junior pitcher stood out this pat season for the Bulldogs. Temples went 22-2 with a 1.18 ERA and 278 strikeouts.
Aliyah Lai, Osceola: One of the top pitchers out of Pinellas County, Lai had the Warriors on a roll in 2023. Lai struck out 174 batters with a record of 16-6 and a 2.19 ERA.
Ryleigh Bennett, Sarasota: Bennett’s pitching helped lift the Sailors to 20-plus wins in 2023. The senior went 14-1 with a 1.44 ERA and 133 strikeouts.
Kayley Zazzali, Lakeland Christian: The senior ace had a great final campaign with the Vikings. Zazzali finished with a 14-1 record, 1.52 ERA and fanned 163 batters.
Kendall Wylie, North Fort Myers: Arguably the best pitcher out of the 239, Wylie was steady and efficient on the mound. Wylie struck out 137 batters and had a 18-2 record on the mound.
Lucy Mondok, East Lake: The only other freshman pitcher on this list, Mondok was impressive for the Eagles. Mondok went 19-5 with 184 strikeouts and a 1.27 ERA.
Morgen Talley, Clearwater Calvary Christian: In leading the Warriors to the Class 3A title, Talley did it at the plate and on the mound. Talley went 12-2 with a 1.11 ERA and 174 strikeouts and also hit 10 home runs.
Sophia Kardatzke, University Christian: Leading all pitchers in the 904, the junior was hard to hit on a nightly basis. Kardatzke went 20-0 with a 1.35 ERA and 219 strikeouts on the season.
