Timberline High School graduate Jonathan Stewart signed a one-day contract with the Carolina Panthers to retire from the NFL after 11 seasons, the team announced Tuesday morning.

Stewart, 32, remains the top rusher in Washington state history with 7,755 yards and 105 touchdowns as a standout for 3A Timberline. He retires with the Panthers as the leading rusher in franchise history — 7,318 yards and 51 touchdowns over 10 seasons.

He was also a sprinter for the Blazers and still holds the school record in the 100-meter dash (10.78).

Stewart graduated from Timberline in 2005 a five-star running back and went to University of Oregon, where he was a two-time first-team All-American in 2006 and 2007.

He was selected 13th overall by the Panthers in the 2008 NFL Draft and rushed for more than 800 yards as a rookie, forming a formidable one-two punch with Panthers standout DeAngelo Williams. Stewart was a Pro Bowl selection in his second season and appeared in the 2015 Super Bowl.

Carolina cut Stewart after the 2018 season. He signed with the New York Giants, but logged just six carries before suffering a season-ending foot injury.
