THREE TO SEE
Hunter Abrams, running back
Tough downhill runner. First team all-league tailback last season as a junior.
Luke Price, quarterback
Transfer from 1A Seton Catholic. Good size, accurate passer who has quick feet — can keep a defense on its toes.
Elite athlete with size, strength and a high upside. State championship track and field thrower, high Division I recruit as a hammer thrower. His development playing football for the first time in four years could prove fruitful for Ridgefield.
OUTLOOK
Ridgefield may have the appearance of a program in rebuild, but there’s much more to its story.
Under first-time head coach Scott Rice, the Spudders, led by returning first team all-2A GSHL running back Hunter Abrams, are determined to post their first winning season since 2015. Rice has brought in a mostly new staff, a single-back spread offense and hopes this is the first step in building a strong program culture in a school and city teeming with growth.
Hockinson is the preseason favorite in the 2A Greater St. Helens League, but could Ridgefield make some noise? The Spudders, whose lone state championship came in 1995, are young, but could find an opening in a league in which second place is very much up for grabs.
