OUTLOOK

Sure, the Vikings were disappointed -- and not just because they fell one game short of winning the Class 4A crown. They self-destructed against Union in a way they had not done all season.

And as Tri noted, there are no “do-overs.” But with a loaded group of key returners, maybe there is for the six-time defending 4A Wesco champions.

There is talent and experience all over the field for Lake Stevens, except at the most important position on offense -- quarterback.

Jellison replaces the highly-productive Tre Long, and reminds some on the coaching staff, including Tri, of a young Jacob Eason (now the UW starter) with his large frame, strong arm and pocket presence. And during passing league this summer, Jellison was quicker to recognize what defenses were doing than what the longtime coach expected.

The other aspect to monitor is how the offensive line comes together in the absence of starting left tackle Devin Kylany (knee), who won’t be available until the playoffs. Tri considers the WSU commit his best player, on and off the field. Cameron Hunter will fill that spot in the meantime.
