Photos: Lassiter storms back from big deficit to force Game 3 at South Paulding

Lassiter falls 9-2 in Game 1 and falls behind 6-0 in Game 2 before rallying behind two Nick Newton homers to stay alive in the 6A quarterfinals.

Through nine innings Monday night at South Paulding, Lassiter's final four prospects look bleak.

The Trojans had lost 9-2 in Game 1 and fell into a quick 6-0 hole in Game 2, but they didn't give up.

Lassiter rode a four-run third inning and five-run fourth to a 10-7 comeback win to force a decisive Game 3 Tuesday to decide who goes to the Class 6A final four.

Nick Newton homered twice to drive the Lassiter rally.

Junior Jacob Cooper led the offense for South Paulding, going 5-for-7 combined in the two games, while Austin Gurley went 4-for-7. Cole Brewer pitched a complete game and struck out four to earn the Game 1 win for the Spartans.

The winner of Game 3 tonight (6 p.m. first pitch) will play Allatoona in the final four.
