Etowah entered the Class 7A state championship series as one of the best hitting teams in the state regardless of classification.

Woodstock left-handers Brayden Davis and Kevin Maurer silenced those bats all night Friday at Truist Park.

Davis pitched a one-hit shutout in Game 1, giving up his only hit in the seventh to Etowah's Jackson Chirello, and Maurer followed that up with a four-hit shutout.

Woodstock won 5-0 in Game 1 and 4-0 in Game 2 to lift the Wolverines' first state championship trophy in program history.

Michael Preiser was the offensive MVP in both games, going a combined 4-for-5 with a double, triple, four RBIs, a walk and two runs scored.

Mark May's squeeze bunt scored Preiser to get the offense going in the fifth inning of Game 1 in what had been a pitchers duel between Davis and Etowah's Dimitri Angelakos.

Kameron Douglas and Logan Bryson hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the first to get Woodstock going early in Game 2.

Davis struck out seven and walked two in his Game 1 shutout, while Maurer struck out eight and walked none in his.
