Camden County (Georgia) looking to continue Cinderella run

The Wildcats have been road warriors all throughout the 7A state playoffs

KINGSLAND, GEORGIA- The regular season may have ended up against state powers Colquitt County and Valdosta, both losses.

Now Camden County is one of the last South Georgia programs still standing in the state semifinal round as they’ve won four straight postseason games en route to tonight’s 7A tilt against Walton.

The Wildcats have racked up over 1,700 miles in traveling all over the state for playoff games. Camden County has notched victories over Lowndes, Newton, McEachern and Mill Creek so far.

Camden County now has to pack up once again and head to north Georgia to prepare and face an undefeated Walton team with a trip to the state championship on the line. What’s been impressive about the run is how the Wildcats have been dominant along the way.

Jeff Herron’s bunch have done most of their damage offensively via the ground game as the Wildcats leaned on their backfield in the 39-20 win over Mill Creek. The ground game generated 387 yards on 48 attempts and scored four touchdowns.

Leading the way for Camden County was running back Jaden Dailey, who rushed for 168 yards on 16 carries. Scoring the touchdowns was senior tailback Antonio Laws, who totaled 95 yards and three scores.

The effectiveness of the ground attack was evident by the amount of times the Wildcats threw the ball in the win: Two.

That’s because of how well the rushing attack has been all season long for the Wildcats. Dailey on the season has rushed for 1,267 yards, scoring 13 touchdowns and Jordan Hardy has carried the ball 76 times for 733 and six scores.

Other running backs that have contributed this season for Camden County are Laws (312 yards, 10 touchdowns) and Jamarley Riddle (575 yards, eight touchdowns).

Now the Wildcats will need to pull off one last road victory against a Walton team that’s only allowing 14.7 points per game. Camden County isn’t the only team that won on the road last week as Walton traveled to defeat Carrollton 56-35.

Slowing down the Walton offensive attack will be a tough task for Camden County as quarterback Jeremy Hecklinski (Wake Forest commitment) completed 22-of-24 passes for 370 yards and three touchdowns against Carrollton.

Win one more road game and Camden County is back in the state championship game for the first time since 2009 when they won it all. Does the Cinderella story continue will all be decided tonight in Marietta.
