The state of Georgia will not lack for representation with Super Bowl LVIII kicks off on February 11th at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Eight players who played their high school football in the Peach State will be on the field between the rosters of the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.

For place-kicker Harrison Butker and receiver Mecole Harman it will be the fourth time each has been on a Super Bowl team with the Chiefs, who advanced last Sunday with a 17-10 victory over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship game.

Butker, who starred at Westminster High before going to play at Georgia Tech, will be one appearance shy of Hall of Famer Rayfield Wright for most appearances in the Super Bowl by former Georgia prep star Griffin, who graduated from Fairmont, played in five Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys.. It was Butker's field goal in the final seconds of last year's Super Bowl which propelled the Chiefs to 38-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Hardman, who played at Elbery County, missed last year's game after being placed on injured reserve, but he did appear in both Super Bowl LIV in 2020 in Miami and Super Bowl LV in 2021 in Tampa.

Also represent Georgia in the big game will be the 49ers Robert Beal (Norcross), Charlie Woerner (Rabun County) and Chris Conley (North Paulding), as well as the Chiefs' Wanya Morris (Grayson), Malik Herring (Mary Parsons) and Jaylen Watson (Laney).

Having former Georgia high school football players in the Super Bowl is not unusual. Only Super Bowl II, played in 1968 between the Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders, did not include a Georgia product.
