Nate Sheppard, Mandeville football 

In a 38-7 win at Denham Springs, the junior tailback scored three touchdowns - two rushing and one receiving. Sheppard carried 22 times for 187 yards and caught three passes for 29 yards.

Jonathan Dartez, Vermilion Catholic football

Dartez, who led the Eagles to the Division IV select finals last year, rushed for 154 yards, passed for 124 and accounted for three TDs in a 26-14 defeat of Catholic-New Iberia.

Jed Devoltz, Kaplan football

Devoltz was a workhorse in Week 1, piling up 231 yards on the ground and two TDs on 31 attempts, The Pirates knocked off parish rival North Vermilion, 18-14.

Jared Thomas, Eunice football

The Bobcats edged Church Point, 37-34, and Thomas played a huge part, catching eight passes for 153 yards, including the game winner. He also threw a 22-yard TD pass.

Logan Lebeouf, Kinder football

Lebeouf carried 26 times for 227 yards and two scores in a 46-28 defeat of Welsh.

Bobby Barkley, Covington football

The junior shined in a season-opening win against John Ehret, collecting five tackles with an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery for a TD.

Riley Small, University Lab football

Small started the season with a bang, rushing for four TDs in a 40-6 rout of Woodlawn-Baton Rouge.

Sebastian Miller, Fontainebleau football

A junior, Miller had five catches and 167 of his team's 220 yards passing yards in a shutout win vs. Lakeshore.

Kayla McKinney, St. Joseph's Academy volleyball

In a five-set thriller against Dutchtown, McKinney recorded 37 kills, 10 blocks and five aces.

Lorenzo Zeno, East St. John football

The Wildcats staged a furious comeback from a 20-0 deficit and Zeno was at the forefront, passing for four TDs and rushing for one in the 41-40 overtime win.

Jamarlon Otis, Captain Shreve football

The Gators broke school rushing records in a win over Loyola Prep. Otis, a junior, rushed for 313 yards on 21 carries with three scores to set a new single-game mark.

Peyton Fulghum and Parker Fulghum, Evangel Christian football

The Fulghum brothers nearly sparked the Eagles to an upset at Neville, which won by one point in overtime. Peyton completed 24-of-34 passes for 340 yards and four TDs. Parker caught 11 passes for 238 yards and three TDs.

Ju'Juan Johnson, Lafayette Christian football

The senior LSU commit had a mind-boggling effort in a shootout win at Acadiana, passing for 362 yards and four TDs and rushing nine times for 132 yards and four TDs.

Ben Taylor, Airline football

Airline dominated the third quarter against North DeSoto en route to a high-scoring 53-42 win. A junior quarterback, Taylor was 31-of-43 passing for 293 yards and four TDs.

Trae Grogan, Lafayette Christian football

The senior caught two passes for 154 yards with both going for TDs vs. Acadiana.

Chantz Babineaux, Carencro football

The sophomore set a new school passing record in his debut at quarterback, throwing for five TDs on 16-of-21 passing and 276 yards. He also rushed seven times for 35 yards and a score in the win over Alexandria.

Hayden Benoit, Loreauville football

The Tigers came back from a 14-0 deficit to defeat Erath on Thursday. Benoit was a catalyst, completing 13-of-16 passes for 112 yards and two TDs.

Daniel Beale, Catholic-Baton Rouge football

The senior UL commit completed 10-of-18 passes for 225 yards and four TDs against Picayune, Miss., as the Bears halted Picayune's 27-game winning streak.

Jackson Bradley, Oak Grove football

The Tigers took down Opelousas Catholic behind 305 total yards from their quarterback, who accounted for six TDs.

Dillon Compton, Bunkie football

The quarterback rolled up 353 yards of total offense with five TDs in a win vs. Catholic-Pointe Coupee.

Ben Bienvenu, St. Mary's football

The Tigers knocked off Abbeville with Bienvenu totaling 20 tackles as well as a sack.

Ty Powell, E.D. White football

Powell kicked a 24-yard field goal, was 7-for-7 on PATs, had five kickoffs go for touchbacks and punted three times for a 42-yard average in a 52-14 rout of Vandebilt Catholic.

Sam Altmann, St. Thomas More football

The senior passed for 298 yards, averaging just under 20 yards per completion, and four TDs in a win at Comeaux.

Preston Welch, Teurlings Catholic football

Welch threw for four TDs as the Rebels beat Opelousas. The senior was 16-of-23 for 274 yards. He had four passing TDs in a season-opening win vs. Opleousas in 2022 as well.

Xavier Ford, Leesville football

Ford, a 2,000-yard rusher in 2022, continued his reign of terror with 291 yards on 33 carries and two scores in a 32-14 defeat of Jennings.

Lawson Lillo, Cedar Creek football

The Cougars lost a one-score game to Glenbrook, but Lillo had a game for the ages with seven solo tackles, 19 assists and five tackles for loss.

Elijah Haven, Dunham football

The Tigers came up just short in a shootout vs. Parkview Baptist, but their freshman QB had a night to remember with 534 yards of total offense and seven TDs.

Christian Pillette, Erath football

Pillette, the school's all-time receiving leader, padded his totals in a loss to Loreauville with 11 catches for 142 yards and two TDs.

Diesel Solari, Cecilia football

The junior returned the opening kickoff 96 yards to paydirt, rushed for 94 yards and threw three TDs in a win at St. Martinville.

Jim Burfew, Buckeye football

Buckeye won its season opener against Block with Burfew carrying 18 times for 236 yards and five TDs.

Abram Johnston, Parkview Baptist football

Johnston, a quarterback, had a hand in five TDs with 419 yards of total offense in a high-scoring win vs. Dunham.

Bishop Davis, Ponchatoula football

The Green Wave defeated Walker, 20-15, with Davis toting the ball 27 times for 257 yards and all three of his team's TDs.

Jacobi Jefferson, Salmen football

The Spartans got past Booker T. Washington-New Orleans, 43-34. Jefferson scored five TDs while rushing for 208 yards on 17 attempts.

Emma Broussard, St. Thomas More volleyball

Broussard had 45 assists as the two-time defending champion Lady Cougars went 2-0 to open the season.

Dee Asberry, Teurlings Catholic volleyball

The Lady Rebels began the season 3-1 with Asberry putting down a team-high 34 kills in 10 sets.

Emma Richey, Mount Carmel volleyball

Richey, a junior, had 36 assists, six kills, five digs and and aces as Mount Carmel beat Metairie Park Country Day.

Camryn Chatellier, Dominican volleyball

Chatellier had 36 kills and 28 digs for Dominican, which began the season 2-0. 

Kyrie Paul, Istrouma Magnet football

Paul scored four touchdowns, all in different ways, in his team's 43-6 win against Capitol-Baton Rouge. He had a receiving TD, an interception return for another TD and kickoff and punt returns for each of his other two trips to the end zone.
