The Ladue girls tennis team was the big story on Friday at the Missouri girls tennis singles and doubles championships at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.

The Rams captured the Class 2 singles and Class 2 doubles titles.

In Class 2 singles, Ladue freshman Angela Chen defeated Lincoln Prep junior Leiloni Payton in the title match.

In doubles, Ladue's duo of senior Megan Ouyang and freshman Kayla Chan defeated Grain Valley sophomore Brooklyn Spencer and junior Emma Thiessen for the Class 2 championship.

In Class 3 singles, Parkway South senior Khayli Buckels defeated John Burroughs junior Sahana Madala for the championship.

In Class 3 doubles, the duo of St. Joseph's Academy freshman Emerey Gross and Abigail Gaines defeated MICDS juniors Mikaela Mikulec and Rachel Li. The Angels won 6-2, 6-4 in the title match.

Gaines was also a member of St. Joe's winning Class 3 doubles team two years ago, as a sophomore.

The Missouri Class 1 singles and doubles championships conclude on Saturday.

The Missouri girls tennis team tournament takes place next weekend in Springfield.

St. Joseph's Academy is the reigning Class 3 champion. Ladue, which finished second to Barstow for the Class 2 title a year ago, will be a team to watch after the Rams' impressive showing on Friday.
