Video: Coach Josh McGee talks about what to expect from the Reagan football team for the 2023 season
Coach Josh McGee of Reagan stopped by to talk about the upcoming 2023 season with SBLive's Marc Pruitt after a recent 7 on 7 workout at West Forsyth High School, which also happens to by McGee's alma mater.
McGee is entering his 13th season as the head coach with the Raiders, the second-longest tenure in the Central Piedmont 4-A Conference behind Todd Willert at East Forsyth.
Reagan finished 8-3 last season and 6-1 in the CPC and lost to Charlotte Catholic in the first round of the 4-A playoffs.
The Raiders got a boost from two freshmen in 2022, quarterback Jacob Smith and running back Jaylen Moore.
Smith threw for 961 yards and 10 touchdowns after he became the team's starter, while Moore ran for 915 yards and eight touchdowns to form a two-pronged rushing attack with Tsion Saunders (705 rush yards, six touchdowns.)
The toughest task for the Raiders this season will be finding replacements for their monster offensive line from last year, which included Sam Pendleton, who is now at Notre Dame, and defensive end Semaj Turner, who is now at Duke.
McGee is confident that the Raiders have the pieces--especially at the skill positions--to be in the mix once again in the conference race and for a deep run in the postseason.
