Max Bledy, Wilsonville baseball

Bledy homered, singled and drove in three to help the Wildcats notch a season-opening 10-4 victory against Cleveland. Later in the week, he had two hits, two runs and two RBIs in a 10-1 rout of Centennial.

Payton Burnham, Sheldon softball

In the Irish’s season-opening 11-1 win over Thurston, Burnham went 3 for 3 with a homer and three runs, and she struck out seven in three hitless innings. The next night, she had 11 strikeouts in six innings in a 7-1 win over Churchill.

Ryan Cooney, Jesuit baseball

Batting leadoff, Cooney went 3 for 3 with two home runs (including a grand slam), six RBIs and four runs in the Crusaders’ season-opening 15-1 rout of South Salem. He had two hits in a 12-0 win over South Eugene three nights later.

Gracie Hamilton, Mazama softball

Hamilton had two hits, two walks, two RBIs and five runs scored in the Vikings’ 23-12 rout of Sutherlin.

Ky Hoskinson, McMinnville baseball

Hoskinson dominated for four innings on the mound in the Grizzlies’ season-opening 10-0 win over Gresham, striking out 11 batters with zero walks and allowing just one hit. At the plate, he singled and drove in a run.

Hank Kern, McDaniel baseball

Kern struck out 14 and walked just one in six one-hit innings, pitching the Mountain Lions to a season-opening 6-1 win over Forest Grove. He also singled, walked twice and scored a run.

Danika Kime, Beaverton softball

Kime drove in four runs in the Beavers’ season-opening 15-1 rout of McKay.

Jackson Price, Hillsboro baseball

Price drove in three runs, including the game-winner on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning, as the Spartans beat Aloha 5-4 in the season opener. 

Camille Schmitz, Tualatin softball

Schmitz struck out 20 batters (two walks) as part of a nine-inning two-hitter as the Timberwolves outlasted Dallas, 1-0. Earlier in the week, she had 15 strikeouts (no walks) in five innings in a 12-0 win over Clackamas.

Hayden Smith, Jesuit baseball

Smith homered twice and drove in five runs in the Crusaders’ 12-0 rout of South Eugene.

Paley Sullivan, Tualatin softball

In her first high school game, the freshman had two hits and four RBIs in the Timberwolves’ 12-0 shutout of Clackamas.

Ailee Young, Nelson softball

In their first game, the Hawks beat Wells 17-2 thanks in large part to Young, who tripled twice, scored three runs and knocked in four.
