Underrated prospect Tane Prictor (Mountain View, OR) turns heads at WAVOR boys basketball all-star game

Prictor is drawing looks from three Division II schools — St. Martin’s, Pittsburg (Kan.) State and Sonoma State — but has his sights set even higher.

Mountain View 6-foot-11 post Tane Prictor might have been unknown to many westside basketball fans entering Sunday’s WAVOR boys basketball all-star game.

One person who knew all about Prictor, though, was Lake Oswego coach Marshall Cho, who raved about Prictor following his team’s 59-42 first-round win in the Class 6A playoffs, saying “D2/D3 coaches need to look at (Prictor) ASAP. He is a problem! This isn’t complicated.”

The fans in attendance at Liberty High School in Hillsboro saw first-hand what Cho meant as Prictor had a strong showing in his 15-minute stint during Oregon’s 128-98 loss to the Washington all-star team. 

Prictor had 10 points, several coming on thunderous dunks, to go with four rebounds, two blocked shots and several other shots altered against a trio of Washington posts headed to Division I schools.

“I think I played to my potential,” Prictor said. “I mean, when I got the ball, I think I missed only one shot (actually two), put four dunks down, and had one good post move. I probably should have rebounded a little better and maybe demanded the ball a little more.”

As for Cho’s admonition, Prictor indeed is drawing looks from three Division II schools — St. Martin’s, Pittsburg (Kan.) State and Sonoma State — but has his sights set even higher.

“I think I can definitely take a couple years there to really improve and work on my game, then maybe transfer to D-1,” he said. “I want to play the highest level that I can.”
